Quantum Max Ball Probes

The Quantum Max uses the FARO  iProbe. This is an electronically serialized intelligent probe that automatically provides its actual exact ball diameter to the Quantum Max and monitors probe body temperature to compensate for thermal deformation.

Quantum Max probes will not attach to any earlier FaroArm models. Probes from earlier FaroArm models will not attach to the Quantum Max without an optional adapter.

The Quantum Max’s point of measurement on any ball probe is the center of the ball. Third-party feature measurement or quality control software compensates for the radius of the ball probe. Point probes are only recommended when the software will not compensate for the radius of the ball probe. The point probe has an impact on measurement accuracy. The error depends on:

Before measuring with the Quantum Max the probe must be compensated. Use the Probes command in your measuring software, to set up and compensate the probe. For more information, see Probes.

All FARO iProbes have a unique serial number. After compensating an iProbe, the compensation information stores on your computer. If you remove the iProbe and reinstall it later, the Quantum Max automatically loads the compensation data.

If you change the probe tip, you must edit the tip diameter and compensate the probe. For more information, see Edit Probe.
