The Diagnostics group controls is a set of commands for checking your Quantum’s setup and general operation.

Base Deflection

Click Base Deflection to run a test the physical setup of your Quantum and your part. If this test fails, check the setup of the Quantum and your part. Run Diagnostic Tilt to test for any tilt in the base of the Quantum.

  1. Set up the FARO compensation cone approximately ⅔ of the Quantum's reach away from its base.

You can also use a 5 mm (0.2 in) machine drilled hole on your part. The hole does not have to be exactly 5 mm (0.2 in), but it must be smaller than the probe’s diameter and have a smooth seat.

  1. Place a properly compensated probe firmly in the cone or hole.

  1. Click Reset Data to begin the test.

  1. Press the green Front button and apply up to 3 pounds-force (13 Newtons) to the base of the Quantum while keeping the probe firmly seated in the cone. Do Not move the joints of the Quantum during this test.

Press the green Front button to reset the screen at any time.

  1. Press the red Back button to stop.

  1. Any deflection of the base is recorded and displayed on the screen. All of the points must be within the circle on the graph.

    • Rotate the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the chart. Right-click and drag to move the chart around the window.

    • Click Reset Plot Axes or double-click the wheel button to reset the chart view.

  1. Click Close to exit.

You should repeat this test and apply force to your part. Any movement in your part or the Quantum will cause your measurements to be inaccurate.

Diagnostics

Click Diagnostics to see the operation if your Quantum’s internal components.

Diagnostic Level

This command may be disabled on Quantums manufactured after June 2020.

Click Diagnostic Level to compare the Quantum to level. This command uses the Quantum’s internal inclinometer. The Quantum should never lean more than ±5° from level.

  1. Look at and adjust the mounting until the white dots are centered in each bubble.

  2. Click Close to exit.

Diagnostic Tilt

This command may be disabled on Quantums manufactured after June of 2020.

Click Diagnostic Tilt to check for any tilt in the base of the Quantum. This command uses the Quantum’s internal inclinometer.

  1. Move the tubes and joints of the Quantum.

    • Any tilt of the base is recorded and displayed on the screen. All of the points must be within the circle on the graph.

    • Click Reset to clear the screen.

    • Rotate the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the chart. Right-click and drag to move the chart around the window.

    • Click Reset Plot Axes or double-click the wheel button to reset the chart view.

  1. Click Close to exit.
