Quantum Max Calibration

The FaroArm Manager software has commands that certify the accuracy and repeatability of your Quantum Max. The Single Point Repeatability Test (SPAT) allows you to test the Quantum Max using a hole. Use measuring software such asCAM2 2024 or CAM2 SmartInspect to test the volumetric accuracy.

The values measured in all of these calibrations include 100% of the measured points. We will always refer to this as the “Max. minus Min. over Two,” or the Maximum measurement subtracting from the Minimum measurement divided by two (Max.-Min.)/2.

If any test fails, print the results and repeat the calibration two more times. Print all of the results and contact FARO ’s Customer Service by Phone, Fax or Technical Support.

Repeatability

Perform the Single Point Repeatability Test (SPAT) to check repeatability of the Quantum Max using a hole or a cone. You must use a firmly secured object with a hole at least 1 mm (0.04 in) smaller than the ball probe. If a cone hole is used, extreme care must be taken to ensure that the probe is seated at each “measurement.”

Use a calibrated ball probe. See Installing Probes and Probe Compensation.

Run the Single Point Articulation Test (SPAT).

Volumetric Accuracy

Perform a Sphere to Sphere, or Point to Point length measurement in order to certify the volumetric accuracy (EUni) of the Quantum Max. This should be done using traceable length artifacts, which are measured at various locations and orientations throughout the working volume of the Quantum Max. This test is a method for determining articulating measurement machine accuracy.

  1. Measure points on each feature, from multiple directions. Ensure that you digitize points on the entire sphere surface.

  2. Make sure that you move the joints of the Quantum Max while measuring the points.

  3. Do not digitize a point if any of the encoders reach their end stop. See Error and Status Indicators.

  4. Avoid a joint position at which the Quantum Max loses a degree of freedom. See Loss of a Degree of Freedom.

See Product Specifications for the specification values (SPAT and EUni) of your Quantum Max, or the serial number label on the rear of the base.

For optimum performance, correctly mounting and operating the Quantum Max is very important. Specified Accuracy is only guaranteed when measurements are taken within the stated working volume of the Quantum Max.See Quantum Max Performance Verification Checklist.
